For the First Time in History, Hollywood Premieres the Controversial Turkish film Atatürk after Disney Cancelation and the Şahsiyet Series, Which Tooks the World by Storm at Sony Studios in LA

In a historic event that echoed through the star-studded halls of Sony Studios in Los Angeles, Turkish cinema took center stage during the Hollywood Turkish Film and Drama Days on 4th and 5th November 2023. The world witnessed the grand premiere of the much-anticipated film “Atatürk” and the unveiling of the second season of the critically acclaimed Turkish series “Şahsiyet” (“Persona”).

Directed by Onur Saylak and written by Hakan Günday, the second season of  “Şahsiyet” aka “Persona” received a standing ovation and garnered praise from the audience during its premiere at Hollywood Turkish Film and Drama Days – marking the first time a Turkish series debuts in US

The star-studded event featured the outstanding actor Haluk Bilginer, who masterfully portrayed Agah Beyoğlu in the 12-episode series “Şahsiyet” (“Persona”). His stellar performance as Agah Beyoğlu earned him the Best Actor award at the International Emmy Awards, marking a historic achievement for Turkish television on the global stage.

The Hollywood Turkish Film and Drama Days, orchestrated by the Presidency’s Communications Directorate and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Los Angeles at Sony Studios, drew attention from across the globe. The event was graced by prominent figures such as Haluk Bilginer, Meryem Uzerli, Aras Bulut Iynemli, Ebru Şahin, Engin Altan Düzyatan, and Fadik Sevin Atasoy.

New Historical Film “Atatürk” starring Aras Bulut Iynemli Makes Its Mark, as the first Turkish movie to premiere in Hollywood

The pinnacle of the event was the world premiere of “Atatürk,” a film depicting the life and military genius of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Cultural and artistic luminaries, including Culture and Tourism Deputy Minister Batuhan Mumcu, Turkey’s Ambassador to Washington Hasan Murat Mercan, and Consul General Sinan Kuzum, were attending the event.

Deputy Minister Batuhan Mumcu, in his address, emphasized the significance of cultural exchange and artistic collaboration, declaring the film’s showcase as a celebration of Turkish culture. However, guests criticized lobby activities that hindered the film’s release on the Disney Plus platform.

President Barbaros Tapan expressed satisfaction, stating,: “We shone in Hollywood; our Turkey enchanted foreign guests.”

The new movie “Atatürk 1881-1919,” sponsored by GAIN, captured the attention during its premiere at the Hollywood Turkish Film and Drama Days.

Lead actor Aras Bulut İynemli shared his excitement about portraying Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s youth on the centennial of the Republic, calling it a thrilling experience.

Producer Saner Ayar shared the joy and pride of realizing the dream of bringing world-class work to Turkey, stating,

“We are happy and proud to have realized this dream in the 100th year of our Republic. “

The new Turkish film “Atatürk” is set to be released in over 30 countries, including the UK, France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, the Balkans, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and the entire Middle East.”

Despite Disney Plus initially including “Atatürk” film in its 2024 lineup, the recent decision to remove it sparked debates.

The “Atatürk” film will now be released in two parts, with the first already in theaters since November 3 and the second scheduled for January 5, 2024.
