Depending on one’s perspective, the scene where we get to know the Fanilers is impressive for its spirituality or gloominess. We didn’t get to meet the ‘honorable lord’ of the Fanilers, but Hoca Sadi (Erkan Avcı) is a highly influential figure in the sect.
His nephew Cüneyd (Mert Yazıcıoğlu) is a profound young man with his own influence. Cüneyd believes he is divinely tasked with punishing ‘evildoers,’ specifically sexual abusers.
When Cüneyd needs to see a psychiatrist, his uncle Hoca Sadi worries about what people in their community will say and takes him to Dr. Levent, the secular doctor he has chosen. And thus, the intersection begins.
We cannot skip quoting Cüneyd’s heartbreaking justified rebellion against someone who defends themselves with “I am sick” after sexually abusing a child: “Now, every evil has become an illness. (…) Everyone is sick. Then, who is evil? Where did evil go?”
