The 24-year-old Korean actor and K-pop singer Lee Ji Han was among the over 150 young victims who died during a tragic crowd surge at a Halloween celebration in Seoul over the last weekend, his management agency 935 Entertainment announced. The Itaewon tragedy is one of the deadliest peacetime events in the history of South Korea.The agency wrote about how heartbroken it was to share the news with fans, calling Lee Ji-han a precious member of their family.
“We are sad to deliver such news today, but Lee Ji-han died in the crush in Itaewon last night.We would like to express our deepest condolences to his family, who, are saddened by the sudden tragic news, and to everyone who loved him. Lee Ji-han brightly smiled when greeting us all the time. He had pure and positive energy with a great passion for acting. It is hard to believe that we cannot see him anymore. Please send your warm goodbye to Lee Ji-han. He’ll always be remembered,” his agency wrote in the statement.
Who is Lee Ji-han?
Lee Ji-han rose to fame in 2017 as a singer after competing in season 2 of “Produce 101,” a music competition where the winners are voted by the audience and receive a spot in a boy band. Lee Ji-han made his acting debut in 2019, starring in the comedy web drama Today Was Another Nam Hyun Day. According to fire authorities, at least 154 victims were deadly injured in the distric Seoul’s Itaewon district after crowds of young gathered for Halloween festivities on Friday, 29 October. Following the tragic incident, South Korean president Yoon Suk-yeol declared a period of national mourning through Saturday, November 5.In alliance, several K-pop acts and agencies have postponed their upcoming releases and events, including huge agencies houses like Hybe (the management agency behind BTS, Tomorrow X Together, Seventeen) and YG Entertainment (Blackpink, Big Bang, Winner, Treasure).
