Marry Me (2022) is an American musical rom-com based on the 2012 graphic novel of the same name by Bobby Crosby. It tells the love story of a famous pop star Kat Valdez (Jennifer Lopez), who marries on impulse a regular math teacher Charlie Gilbert (Owen Wilson), after discovering her fiancé Bastian (Maluma) has been cheating on her.

What’s the story?

Kat Valdez, a famous Latin singer, who had two failed highly-mediatized marriages, decides to marry the superstar Bastian (Maluma) in front of 20 million people. After their song ‘Marry Me’ top the global charts, Kat and Bastian decide to tie the knot at one of their concerts – a wedding ceremony streamed on multiple platforms. The celebrity couple reached together over 200 million followers on social media.

Charlie Gilbert, a divorced math teacher, finds himself forced to attend the concert by his daughter Lou and best friend, Parker. Right before the ceremony, Kat learns from tabloids that Bastian has been cheating on her with her assistant, Tyra. Broadcasted to Kat and her fans at the wedding concert, this shocking news will change her life.

At that moment, Kay sees Charlie in the middle of the crowd holding his friend’s sign reading “Marry Me.” Straightaway, Kat decides to impulsively marry the innocent math teacher, proposing to him in front of the world. Confused about what just happened, Charlie went on stage and married Kat.

From a mad impulse, two different people in search of something real in a shallow world will unexpectedly fall in love. According to a Deadline Hollywood report from April 2022, six million unique accounts streamed the movie. In June 2022, Marry Me ranked at #1 for about two weeks on the Amazon Prine streaming platform.

About the “MARRY ME” album

Jennifer Lopez and Maluma recorded and produced a soundtrack album titled the same as their movie. The lead single “Pa’ Ti” debuted at #9 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs, marking Lopez’s highest chart debut in the US since 2017.

Similarities with Pretty Woman (1990):

Marry Me (2022) is a reverse image of Pretty Woman(1990), combined with a glimpse of Jennifer Lopez’s real life behind the scenes. Melissa shows Kat an expensive necklace in a red box as she reaches for it… Melissa pretends to shut it, and Kat falls back-laughing. This is an obvious remake of a scene from Pretty Woman (1990) with the characters Edward and Vivian.
