MYTHOLOGY OF ŞAHMARAN
Şahmaran, the mythical creature, half snake and half woman, has his first human encounter with a young boy named Camasb, who got stuck in her cave after trying to steal honey with a group of friends. Abandoned by his friend, Camasb decides to explore and finds a passage to a chamber looking like a mystical garden with thousands of white snakes and Şahmaran living in harmony.
Camasb and Şahmaran fall in love and start living in that chamber, where Şahmaran shares her wisdom about medicine and medical herbs. But, Camasb misses the sun and wants to leave, assuring Şahmaran that he will not reveal the secret of her existence in that cave. After many years passed, the king of the Tarsus fell ill, and the vizier discovered that to treat his illness will require Şahmaran flesh. Camasb betrays her and tells the people where Şahmaran lives. According to the legend, Şahmaran said: “blanch me in an earthen dish, give my extract to the vizier, and feed my flesh to the sultan.” The mythical creature is brought into town and killed in a bath called “Şahmaran Hamam.” The king eats her flesh and lives, and the vizier drinks the extract and dies. Camasb drinks Şahmaran’s water and becomes a doctor by gaining her wisdom.Advertisements ↓
