The King: Eternal Monarch (2020) – WHAT’S THE STORY?
The King: Eternal Monarch tells the story of two parallel universes, the fictional Kingdom of Korea, a constitutional monarchy ruled by Emperor Lee Gon (North and South are unified in this world), and a Modern day Korea. Emperor Lee Gon discovers a portal to an alternate universe in the bamboo forest, a mythical door opened by his half-uncle Lee Lim, who killed the previous king. The Monarch seeks to end his uncle’s atrocities and reclaim the other half of Manpasikjeok, and close the portals between the two worlds. This portal leads him to the Republic of Korea we know today. There he meets a passionate detective, Jung Tae-eul, whom he recognizes from an ID he found when his father died. Lee Min-ho as Lee Gon / Lee Ji-hun Lee Gon, the current monarch and third king of the fictional Kingdom of Korea. When he was eight years old, Lee Gon witnessed the assassination of his father ordered by his half-uncle. He was saved by someone with the identity ID of Jeong Tae. Lee Ji-hun, is Lee Gon’s counterpart in the Republic of Korea killed by Lee Lim. Kim Go-eun portrays Jeong Tae-eul / Luna Jeong Tae-eul is a passionate police officer ranked as an inspector in the Violent Crimes Squad Three of the National Police Agency, in a parallel universe, in modern Korea. Luna is Jung Tae-eul’s counterpart, a criminal in the fictional Kingdom of Korea. Woo Do-hwan as Jo Yeong / Jo Eun-sup Jo Yeong is Captain of the Royal Guard of the Kingdom of Korea and the best friend of Lee Gon. Filming locations
The filming of Korean drama The King: Eternal Monarch lasted seven months, between October 2019 and June 2020. Lee Min-ho and Kim Go-eun shot their first scene together at Gwanghwamun Square, Seoul. The filming locations also include Saseongam Temple, Misari Regatta, Mungwang Reservoir and Dadaepo Beach. The bamboo forest scenes were shot at Ahopsan Bamboo forest in Busan.Is there a season 2 of The King: Eternal Monarch?
