Tony Leung joins the cast of Squid Game 2? The director, Hwang Dong-hyuk, confirms if the Shang-Chi actor will or not join the cast in second season of Netflix series.

Although there is not much known regarding Squid Game’s developments, the latest rumors suggested that the Hong Kong film star Tony Leung will join the Netflix series. Will the Shang-Chi actor star in the series directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk?

No, the rumor of Tony Leung joining the cast of Netflix’s Squid Game, was officially denied by the director Hwang Dong-hyuk and the production company of the famous Korean series.

The rumors sparked after the Hong Kong actress-wife Carina Lau posted an image of her husband, Tony Leung, sitting down and having dinner with Squid Game director and creator Hwang Dong-hyuk. Carina Lau (劉嘉玲) captioned the black and white photo: “Ready for Squid Game?”

    The Hong Kong actress later uploaded another batch of photos and wrote: “Let’s play Squid Game.”

    And was enough to get everyone excited, attracting great interest from both fans of Leung and the Emmy-winning Netflix series, which confirmed its second and third seasons. However, Siren Pictures made a statement denying the casting of Tony Leung in Squid Game 2. The production company highlighted that Tony and Carina are fans of Squid Games and met the director Hwang Dong Hyuk through a mutual friend.

    “They did not meet for casting. Squid Game 2 will not cast [non-Korean] actors.”

     

      Tony Leung is in South Korea to attend the 27th Busan International Film Festival.

      During a press conference, the actor mentioned he would accept an offer to star in a Korean drama. With this condition, he looks for roles where he will not have to speak Korean.

      “If there are roles for which I can overcome the language barrier, I would like to star in Korean drama. If there is a role that does not require me to speak like the characters in that film, maybe I can also be in Korean dramas.”

      Asked with which actors he would like to work, Leung answered Song Kang-ho (Parasite, The Host, Snowpiercer) and Jeon Do-Yeon.

       

        Leonardo DiCaprio is rumored to join the third season of Netflix’s Squid Game.

          • Hwang Dong Hyuk is still in the midst of writing the screenplay of Squid Game Season 2.
          • The actor Lee Jung Jae confirmed his return in the sequel.

          In an interview for Variety in early September, Hwang Dong-hyuk teased famous names for the Squid Game series, which will begin filming its second season in 2022 and air in 2024.

          “There will be no known Hollywood actor in Season 2,” he said, saying that Season 3 can be a possibility. “Leonardo DiCaprio did say he’s a big fan of Squid Game, so maybe if time or chance allows, we can ask him to join the games.”
