WHAT’S THE STORY? (Synopsis)
NETFLIX TURKISH MOVIE – Heartsong / Gönül (2022) starring Hazar Ergüçlü and Erkan Kolçak Köstendil
The new Netflix Turkish movie Heartsong / Gönül (2022) follow the story of Piroz (Erkan Kolçak Köstendil) who belongs to a nomadic tribe of Dom gypsies, who travel between villages playing violing and singing at weddings. On one of his trips, Piroz falls in love with Sumbul (Hazar Ergüçlü), whose wedding he is entertaining.
However, chaos takes over the wedding when someone calls the bride a lunatic and a huge fight starts between the two families. The madness is fueled by Piroz’s brother who continues playing while the crowd of disarrayed people fights like animals, and in the middle of which a forbidden love begins.
Now, Sümbül is an unwanted bride according to her family’s traditions, and her faith is death. Piroz is determined to make Sümbül his wife, crafting a perfect plan to steal and run away with the bride to his nomad village.

A strong parallel between both families’ values and roots.
Here appears the first parallel between Sumbul and Piroz families. Her family is determined to follow their traditional duties, on the other side, Piroz’s family lives freely of traditions and social constraints, welcoming Sümbül with their open arms into their tribe.
